Best Internet Service Provider in Dumaguete

Planning to have Internet access in your home? Here is my experience on the ISP ( Internet Service Provider) companies here in Dumaguete City.

Last Feb 2009 I was looking around for an ISP that would provide me with a good Internet connection at home. Here in Dumaguete I came up with 3 choices, SMARTBRO fixed wireless, GLOBELINES DSL and SkyCable Broadband.

Here was my assessment of the 3

SMART – Needed an outdoor antenna (Canopy)
GLOBELINES – comes with a landline (with cellphones available cheap, who uses these?)
SkyCable – comes bundled with cable service

I also asked around from friends who subscribed to these providers. GLOBELINES DSL was actually pretty good, less downtime experienced and the speed was pretty fast for the 1mbps connection. The only problem was that if there is a downtime it would last almost a day according to my friends.

I was able to check the SMARTBRO fixed wireless from a friends house. Internet speed was pretty decent however I was not able to check on downtimes.

I ended up subscribing with SkyCable Broadband, the bundled cable service was the main selling point for me. I signed up for their 384 kbps service and after waiting for 2 days cable service and Internet was already running in my house.

What’s good about SkyCable Broadband here in Dumaguete is that I have only experienced 2 downtimes ( no Internet connection at all) so far since I got connected and they only lasted 2 hours at most. Speed is good, have not experienced any slow browsing problems at all. This might be due to the new Scientific Atlanta cable modems that they provide to their subscribers.

If you are looking for an excellent Internet Service Provider try to visit the SkyCable office in Dumaguete located at the ground floor of GAT Bldg. which is at the corner of Real and San Jose streets. You could also call them at 225-7691, 225-7693 and 422-7049 for further details.

Why cant i get your internet connected at my home…you excuse is that 3 people need to connect if i want it….I think that is a very weak excuse as i have to suffer not having the internet …. I dont know people here and it not my fault if my neighbours cant afford the internet…..i need the net to keep in touch with my family and friends and you deny me that all because you want to make extra money…That is not fair but then again why would you care as long as you make money. I am disgusted that you treat potential customers in this way

I am a loyal subscriber to Skycable over the last 3 years until present. I subscribe to their 1.5mbps plus cable to which we’re paying for about P1,650/month.
let me tell you something about my esperience. At first skycable is great, fast and reliable. But then, months and years passed by they become slower, shady and not reliable at all and it becomes irritating. One time the whole day just dont have any internet connection. Wtf? We’ve been paying them for the last 3 years and this is all we get.
my husband dont like it anymore and it seems like they’ve been stealing from us for the last couple of years.
now we are planning to change our internet provider because it seems like this will never end.
All in all I would rate the skycable 5 out of 10. I’m not really happy with their service at all.
Anyway so, I dont know about other internet providers. I’ve heard about PLDT dsl (along with landline bundle) that 3mbps for 1,600/month is fast. Anybody have/had experienced PLDT service? Does anyone have a better suggestion with internet providers?

1 out of 10 for me… and yes, you are quite right about their service. Skybroadband is only good for the first few months.

the problem with sky is they load their servers up this is why the service gets slower, they have a total bandwidth allowance on each server as the server accounts increase on a server at a certain stage the servers allowance is used up then your share is decreased at high internet using times. such as at this present time I am paying for 3Mbps and only getting 1.2Mbps download time so the server I am on has at least 2 x the user accounts it should have to get what I pay for. Then also it may because I am only receiving 50 percent of cable signal being to far away from a line booster. that means the company can not provide me with the 3Mbps I pay for I do know that my signal strength is 65% of which means I only get 1.95 Mbps anyway and my speed test is showing 1,2 Mbps at a top usage time which means the server I am on has gone over the recommended users for that server. However the speed at this present time is okay for me. As I have a fast computer with good buffer memory space,

I was curious if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your site?

Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect
with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 pictures.

Maybe you could space it out better?
